M12 connectors for industrial ethernet

Today’s process automation protocols require communication networks to manage a growing data workload in increasingly complex environments. To succeed, cross-system collaboration and integration are needed to consolidate industrial Ethernet devices, fieldbus network devices, and sub-systems into one highly available and coordinated network. In response to the raising market demand for reliable connection, Smiths Interconnect's latest M12 connector design offers customers enhanced capabilities that are ideal for a growing number of industrial, transportation and medical applications.

The 8-way M12 connectors are specifically designed for applications subject to shock or vibration. The rugged metallic connector housing reduces the risk of damage to a minimum and the assembly is user-friendly as no special tools are required. In addition, the low number of components reduces stocking requirements to a minimum. The M12 plug connectors can be connected to wires with sizes ranging from AWG 30 to AWG 20. The 360° shielding protection makes the connection well-suited to system environments with large amounts of EMC interference. In the locked and mated condition the connector complies with the IP67 standard.

The compact and robust design of the M12 connectors incorporates Hypertac® hyperboloid contact technology, that sets this Series apart from competitive offerings under a variety of operational conditions. The Hypertac contact provides exceptional performance in terms of low insertion and extraction force, shock and vibration immunity, high current rating, low contact resistance (<5 milliOhm), long life and low rate of wear.

"Our 8-way M12 connectors provide data transmission integrity for fast and reliable Industrial Ethernet connections" said Roberta Rebora, Global MarCom Vice President of Smiths Interconnect. "We are well positioned to respond to the growing requirements of future industrial Ethernet networks and to deliver the high performance and flexibility that our customers require in order to maintain a competitive edge. "
