Huafeng Smiths Interconnect deepens its localization process, serving China's commercial aerospace and railway markets
2019/11/14

Huafeng Smith Interconnect (HSI), the joint venture between Smiths Interconnect Division of Smiths Group plc and Sichuan Huafeng Group, celebrated yesterday the opening of its new factory in Mianyang, Sichuan. The new factory is another firm step in Smiths’ plan to participate in the strategic development of “Made in China 2025” and “Belt and Road” initiatives. It demonstrates Smiths’ strong commitment to deepen its localization in the Chinese market.

HSI wants to be a reliable partner for the commercial aviation and railway customers in China. In order to offer high quality and timely response to customers, HSI has been structured with sales, logistics and after-sales service activities. The plan is to build eight new aerospace and railway connector production lines by mid-2020, and to continue the expansion of the manufacturing capacity until 2023.

The Grand Opening ceremony took place in the presence of the leadership of Sichuan province, of Mianyang city, of Smiths Interconnect & Changhong group, as well as of our valued partners in the commercial aerospace and railway markets to celebrate this important moment together. Mianyang Mayor Yuan Fang sent a letter to the joint venture team to express his warm congratulations. His letter highlights the role that Huafeng Smiths Interconnect will play in the transformation of MianYang industrial landscape by introducing global advanced production standards, and its commitment to become a leader in the high-end connector industry, which will surely promote the transformation of Mianyang industries.

Smiths Interconnect’s Sales & Marketing VP, Paul Harris said “I have been coming to Mianyang now for 2 years and have followed with pride the establishment of the company and the creation of the team who is going to make this company a great success.

I wish to thank Kris Long for his commitment to move to Mianyang and lead the joint venture through the implementation stages that have made it ready for great times ahead.

We are now well positioned to deepen localisation. Local assembly has started with the transfer of assembly lines from both Smiths Interconnect and Huafeng and the development of design capability is underway so that we can better satisfy the local customer needs.”
