Statement of Compliance

1.0 Scope

Smiths Interconnect is committed to both Environmental Protection and to our customers’ obligations for compliance with applicable environmental legislation and other requirements. The majority of our products are composed of various copper, steel, and aluminum alloys with appropriate surface finishes. While some of these materials contain small amounts of lead and other regulated materials, their content is in compliance, unless otherwise indicated, with the European Union Directives which defines Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS).

2.0 Permissable Restricted Substances

REACH Article 33 requires all suppliers to inform their customers if the article they supply contains any of the substances in the Candidate List (RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Appendix A) in concentrations > 0.1% w/w of the article. An article is a product which has a special shape, surface or design which determines its function to a greater degree than its chemical composition. The article that the supplier supplies can be very simple (e.g. a screw, resistor, housing) or very complicated (e.g. a computer). In all cases, the concentration threshold of 0.1% applies to the weight of the supplied article.

3.0 Exceptions

In certain applications, our customers may have requested or in the future may request that certain products do not comply with the restrictions of Section 2.0. Such applications may include, but are not restricted to, products intended for a specific national security or military purpose. Such products will be indicated as not RoHS compliant when requested. In addition, certain products which have been previously manufactured or which may continue to be manufactured will continue to be sold to customers who do not require RoHS compliance

4.0 Statement of Compliance

Regarding the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive (2011/65/EU), to the best of our knowledge, Smiths Interconnect's products are in compliance with the directive with the exceptions described in Section 3.0.

The RoHS directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment that is destined primarily for domestic consumer use. Smiths Interconnect does not manufacture OEM products of a domestic nature. Based on a review of the Directive regarding Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Smiths Interconnect does not design, manufacture, or supply products that are subject to the WEEE directive.
